Random PIN Generator

Get a random 4-digit PIN, a 6-digit passcode, or any code from 4 to 12 digits, one tap at a time. Every digit comes from your browser’s secure random number generator, and the codes people choose most, like 1234, 0000, and birth years, are skipped. So your PIN is never one of an attacker’s first guesses.

The PIN is made on your device and never sent anywhere. Need a code for each guest, locker, or team member? Several PINs makes up to 16 at once, all different. For a whole building or class, the bulk generator has a PIN style and makes up to 1,000, with names.

What Is the PIN For?

Pick the job and the generator opens with the right number of digits.

PINs You Will Never Get

Most people pick a PIN by making a shape on the keypad, and thieves try those shapes first. While Skip easy PINs is on, you never get one:

1234567890
1234 counting
1234567890
2580 straight down
1234567890
1111 the same key

It also skips years and birthdays (1987, 2512), repeated pairs (1212), even steps (2468), and favorites that fit no pattern, such as 1342.

That still leaves 8,592 of the 10,000 four-digit PINs, and the generator picks one of them at random, each exactly as likely as the next. At six digits it also skips the 1,525 codes an iPhone warns about or that turn up most in leaked data.

The Most Common PINs

Have I Been Pwned analyzed 29 million real PINs. One code towers over the rest:

  1. 12349.0%
  2. 11111.6%
  3. 00001.1%
  4. 13420.6%
  5. 12120.4%
  6. 22220.3%
  7. 44440.3%
  8. 11220.3%
  9. 19860.3%
  10. 20200.3%

Almost one person in ten uses 1234, and these ten codes together cover one PIN in seven. A thief with a found phone tries exactly these first. Every one of them is on the skip list here, and so is the rest of the top 50, which is mostly birth years from the 1970s to the 2000s, plus 2580, which runs straight down the middle of a phone keypad.

Four Digits or Six?

Six, whenever you get the choice. A PIN is short, so it is only safe because the device locks after a few wrong tries. With 10 tries, a thief guessing a random PIN from this page has these odds:

1 in 859for a 4-digit PIN

1 in 99,422for a 6-digit PIN, over 100 times safer

DigitsPINs it picks fromChance of a guess in 10 tries
48,5921 in 859
597,8961 in 9,790
6994,2151 in 99,422
899,969,8201 in 10 million

A PIN a person chose is much easier: the ten codes above would open about one phone in seven.

A Random 4-Digit Number for Anything

The same generator is a fair random number generator for draws, raffles, giveaways, and random samples. Turn Skip easy PINs off, and every number from 0000 to 9999 is exactly as likely, 1234 and 0000 included. Use the plus button for a 5- or 6-digit number, up to 12 digits.

Need several numbers with no repeats? Open Several PINs and choose up to 16: every number in the list is different. Leading zeros are kept, so 0042 stays four digits.

Keeping a PIN Safe

  • One PIN per thing. If your phone and your bank card share a PIN, a thief who watches you unlock one has both.
  • Cover the keypad. Most stolen PINs are watched, not guessed.
  • Never write it on the card or the case. Keep it in a password manager instead, protected by a strong passphrase.
  • Give each person their own door code, and delete it when they leave. Worn keys on a keypad show which digits a code uses. Hosting guests? The Wi-Fi QR code generator prints a sign so they can join your Wi-Fi without asking.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I generate a random 4-digit code?

Use the generator above: it opens with four digits, and the refresh button makes a new code each time. For a longer code, press the plus button.

What is a strong 4-digit PIN?

A random one that is not on the list of easy ones. No four-digit PIN is strong on its own: with only 10,000 codes, its safety comes from the device locking after a few wrong tries. A random PIN makes sure the attacker gets no shortcut.

What is a good 6-digit passcode?

Any random one from this page with six digits chosen. It is far harder to guess than 123456, a birth date, or a pattern on the keypad, and this generator never gives you a code an iPhone would warn you about.

Why is 2580 a popular PIN?

It runs straight down the middle column of a phone keypad, so it is easy to type and remember. That makes it one of the first codes anyone tries, and it is in the top 30 of real PINs. This generator never gives you 2580 or any other straight keypad line.

What is the rarest PIN?

In a well-known study by DataGenetics, the least used four-digit PIN was 8068. It stopped being rare the day the study went around the world, because attackers read it too. Picking a “rare” PIN from a list makes you more predictable. A random PIN has no pattern to find.

Can I get a PIN with no repeated digits?

Not as an option, and it would not help. “Skip easy PINs” removes codes with fewer than three different digits, such as 1111 or 1122, but a code like 4471 can still appear. Forbidding every repeat would leave only 5,040 four-digit codes, which makes a PIN easier to guess, not harder.

How many 4-digit combinations are there?

10,000, from 0000 to 9999. Only 5,040 of them use four different digits. With Skip easy PINs on, this generator picks from 8,592 of them.

Should my SIM PIN be on or off?

On. Without it, anyone who takes your SIM can put it in another phone and receive your calls and texts, including sign-in codes. Many networks ship SIMs with a published default such as 0000 or 1111, so change it to a random one. Three wrong tries lock the SIM until you enter the PUK from your network.

Is it safe to use an online PIN generator?

Here, yes. The PIN is made in your browser and never sent to us, and once the page has loaded it works offline too. Some PIN sites make the code on their server, or use a random function that is not meant for security.
